Zen

Before returning to Pelotas we embarked on an adventure up a crazy dirt road to the top of a mountain. Everyone was sweating slightly as the car slid and bounced, but our driver (Neca) bravely percevered. Perched on top was official Buddist temple of Brazil, the most incredible buildings and views.

Before exploring the temple we enterd a small building that had a film explaining the founding of the temple. These photos (below) hung on the surrounding walls.

On the steps of the main temple where they do their meditation. Unfortunately no photos were permitted inside. The interior was absolutly incredible!!!!! All walls were covered with detailed, hand-painted, traditional murals. Colour everywhere!

Across the little bridge over the pond was another smaller temple.

Prayer flags- the wind blows through them and spreads the prayers.

The carved 'squares' under the roof are all detailed and hand painted

Inside (photo taken through the window as we wren't allowd to go in).

Decorative, carved detail.

These big cylinders spin.

Translates to: do not step on the ants
"He should not kill a living being, nor cause it to be killed, nor should he incite another to kill.
Do not injure any being, either strong or weak in the world"
(Sutta Nipata II, 14)

We felt like a bit of a contradiction as we rushed around. Our older travel companians were getting very tired understandable. Moises and I fantasised about returning here one day and living the buddist lifestyle for 6 months. I would love to learn meditation and more about the buddist religion.
Here is another beautiful buddist quote:

"You can explore the universe looking for somebody who is more deserving of your love and affection than yourself,
and you will not find that person anywhere"
