For our extended two year anniversary celebration we went to Bendigo thanks to Moises and my family´s help. Like I said in a previous post, "no better way to celebrate than eating good food", which is what we did the whole weekend!
Our curiousity drove us down an alleyway with hidden cafes and boutique shops.
We stopped at this cafe (The Dispensary) for breakfast
Breakfast: baked eggs with fetta, spicey tomatoe and basil and baked polenta with mixed mushrooms and poached egg. YUM YUM!
Fanstastic outside extension of the cafe, great for summer!
This was another tiny funky cafe, but was closed while we were there. Translates to "The Fat"
Moises´model moments
WE LOVE EATING! Stopped for a snack after popping into the Bendigo Art Gallery. Amazing flourless chocolate cake and fresh chai tea! The waiter gave us two slices of cake because apparently they were small slices, so got to gorge ourselves on a piece each instead of sharing. Really cute pieces of odd vintage china here. Good for collecting ideas for our cafe!
Sent my man down to the mines to bring home the gold!
Our tour guide unexpectedly was a woman, completely passionate about her job and very entertaining!
Quickly forgot about my claustrophobic tendency.
BOO!
Working hard!
BRRRUM BRRRRUM!
Onto the next feast, our dinner! Whilst exploring the town during the day we found a very cute french restaurant. We took the number and called on the way back to the appartment to book a table, thinking it would fill up quickly on a saturday night. Booked out! But Moises in his wisdom suggested if we rock up a bit later, they might be able to give us a table on the spot. We were lucky!
The food was so amazing, the perfect end to a perfect day of eating!
Usual we eat quite fast, but the flavour we did savour!
Apart from a snobby waiter, the restaurant was cosy and intimate.
Embracing his French heritage, or not
Our lovely sheek B&B
As it was close to our B&B we walked down to the lake for breakfast. Great view, but the service at the cafe and the atmosphere was terrible, so we went in search of something more suited to our weekend.
Whilst doing so we came across the creepiest garden made creepier by the plaque at the gate.
Not to mention there was a light rain, a bit of fog, strange noises and it was like a labarinth and we couldn´t find our way out for a long time!
Turns out the strange noises came from a community of bats that took over the entire garden! There was certainly a strange vibe going on in there. The last and most creepiest thing before we found our way out was I found an animal (no idea what kind it was) whose head had been cleanly chopped off and was lying beside its body untouched, no nibble marks by another animal, nothing!
light at the end of the tunnel!
Relieved to finally have breakfast and relax after our mornings adventures, twists and turns.
Found a cute Italian Cafe that was still serving breakfast, although by that time we were craving something more substantial like pasta! Anyway, very cheap bacon and eggs with a very generous serve of bacon and great coffee!
On our train trip back to Melbs we thought we´d make the most of our ticket and stop off at Castlemaine for a couple of hours till the next train.
Stopped in at the huge antique shop that seemed to have everything cool you could think of!
Garlic and rosemary pizza and a glass of red on the old seats of the classic ´Theatre Royal´
