This festival is traditionally celebrated by children in June, in honor of St João. They celebrated this 'festa' at the school where Moises' mother works, so we tagged along. The kids dress up in 'country' clothes, play games, eat, and dance. All the profits went to improving the school. When they were announcing winners for the raffel, I got a shout out from the principle as their 'Australian guest'.
This is a traditional dance where one boy is left without a partner so has to dance with a stick. As the music plays he has to trade the stick for a partner and the next boy who lost his girl has to find a new partner, pass on the stick etc. The aim is not not be the one with the stick when the music finishes (bad luck). One girl was very popular and the little boys kept trading the stick for here. They were very cute dancing.

Little cutey!
This is some artwork by the kids. Its a poor school but they are very creative with their resources. These were made with pegs and tooth picks.
